The company’s history began on September 1, 1955, when the first organized bus transportation system was established to serve the residents of Chișinău. At the time of its founding, the fleet consisted of approximately 40 “ZIS” and “PAZ” buses, and operations were carried out by over 200 employees. At that time, the development of public transportation was a priority for the rapidly expanding city, and buses were one of the main solutions for residents’ mobility.
Between 1966 and 1979, the company, then known as Motor Transport Unit No. 2811, underwent a major process of development and modernization. The fleet was expanded with “Liaz-677” and “Laz-695” buses, models that helped increase transport capacity and expand the route network. As the city’s population grew and new neighborhoods developed, demand for public transportation services rose steadily, leading to the continuous expansion of the vehicle fleet.
Starting in 1975, the company initiated a new modernization process by introducing “Ikarus” buses, equipped with diesel engines and highly regarded at the time for their increased comfort and high transport capacity. These buses quickly became a symbol of urban public transportation, helping to improve travel conditions for the capital’s residents. During this period, the number of vehicles reached approximately 350 buses, which allowed for serving an ever-increasing number of passengers and expanding the network of urban and suburban routes.
A significant milestone in the company’s history occurred in March 1979, when it relocated to 51 Sarmizegetusa Street, where it remains headquartered today. The new technical facility provided better conditions for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the buses, contributing to increased operational efficiency and the development of the infrastructure necessary to manage a continuously expanding fleet.
Between 1994 and 1997, “Urban Bus Park” No. 2 operated as part of the “Urban Passenger Transport Authority” of Chișinău. This period was marked by significant economic and administrative transformations typical of the transition period, as well as by constant efforts to maintain the continuity of public transport services.
On January 1, 1998, following the reorganization and division of the existing structure, the Municipal Enterprise “Urban Bus Park” was founded, becoming a separate entity responsible for the administration and development of bus transport services in the municipality of Chișinău. This change allowed for more efficient resource management and the establishment of clear objectives for the modernization of public transport.
Over the years, the enterprise has continued to evolve, adapting to the modern demands of urban mobility. The bus fleet has been gradually renewed, modern transport monitoring and management technologies have been implemented, and the focus has been on increasing safety, comfort, and accessibility for passengers.
Today, Î.M. “Parcul Urban de Autobuze” is a key pillar of the public transportation infrastructure in Chișinău, with a mission to provide safe, efficient, and accessible transportation services for all residents and visitors to the capital. Drawing on the experience gained over more than seven decades of operation, the company continues to contribute to the development of urban mobility and the improvement of the quality of life in the community.
